summer week 6
You wouldn’t think that simply renaming a collection of photos takes three hours, but between mistakes and editing the names of 108 images, the time adds up. While the Capture One software has it’s naming scheme that follows “Session title_0XXX” meaning that once you take the pictures/scans the images are in order, when the item you’re working with takes multiple sessions that complicates things. Because you have to reset the session each time to recalibrate the LCC, or when you make changes, such as lighting, camera height, if you’re using the V cradle or not; this naming scheme means that these pictures now are not in order, or if you’re working on something that requires a different set up your previous settings now cant be used. For working on the 1947-50 scrapbook we had to get pictures of it open, on the bed of the scanner because of possible damage to the pages. But to get pictures of the items that had multiple pages we had to use the V cradle on another day, thus requiring a new LCC, meaning a new session and finial leading to a naming format that cant match the previous session because you cant have two sessions with the same name. And of all the random things to happen, a single image from this scrapbook is likely corrupted, the very last one we took cant open in windows photo viewer or photoshop. And the 1950 scrapbook still does not have JPG images due to a “can not create directory” error while it was exporting last time we tried.
Furthermore I had to refresh myself on the information contained in the RICHES metadata guide book, since last semester Levi did the bulk of it while I did the photo editing. Kesley has started on the 1947 scrapbook so once I finish the photo editing I intend to start working on the 1950 scrapbook. This scrapbook is very different from the first one, while the older one was more of a personal book this one from 50 is more or less just a Howard sports book with flyers for football games and articles about the games/sports team from likely either the School or local newspapers. Something else that we need to do Is review last semester’s metadata that Geoff Cavero sent now that he has finished looking over it and telling us what needs to be fixed, and thus not mess up on this semester.
